Cavalcade of Bands - Pasco, WA, Sat Oct 4th - Information

This information is provided for parents and others who wish to attend the band competition - highly recommended if you can attend - you will be amazed and dazzled by the performances.

The competition will be held at the Edgar Brown Stadium at Pasco High School (next year will be at Kennewick High School).

West Valley will be performing at 1:30 pm in the "AA" Division.

The "Preliminary" competition starts, however, with the first band scheduled at 8:45 am and the last starting at 4 pm. Preliminary awards ceremony will be at 5 pm, with Finals Competition ceremony begins at 6:15 pm with the last band taking the field at 9:45 pm. Final Awards and the closing ceremony will start at about 10 pm. Assuming WV makes it to finals competition, it will be a late show!
The Closing Ceremony is quite a spectacle. We do not have photos of previous Pasco closing ceremonies but you can get an idea from this photo of the closing ceremony at Auburn in 2006 showing only half the bands on the field.

Wanted: Blue Books

Mr. Bosch would like to know if any former CMS students have copies of Standard of Excellence Book Two (blue book) that you would like to donate to current CMS Band students. If so, please bring them to WVHS, and they will be picked up there. Thanks for the help!

Band Shirt Update

BAND SHIRT UPDATE
Parents … many of you ordered shirts at Tuesday night’s Band Booster meeting. There seems to be some confusion, so I want to clarify that you have three choices as to what information you want on the back of your shirt(s):

SHIRT #1: This shirt design will have a “Listing” of all student members on the back
(This is the OFFICIAL design for all Band students, siblings and other family members and friends)

SHIRT #2: This shirt design will have the words “Band Booster” on the back in large Orange block letters
(This design is ONLY for adults, especially those who will be chaperoning throughout the year)

SHIRT #3: This shirt design will have the words “Pit Crew” on the back in large Orange block letters
(This design is ONLY for those adults who will be setting up the sideline percussion at our competitions – contact Bill Vaughn)

You will be contacted by phone/email this weekend to clarify which design you want for your order. This order must be placed by Monday, September 22, so we can have the shirts in time for our first competition in Pasco. Also, if any of you have not ordered your shirts, I must have the order and payment in my office by next Monday, as well. Thank you.

PAPERWORK AND FEES DUE
Parents … I want to thank each of you for being so diligent in returning the paperwork and fees that are due at this time. I want to remind all of you that your student may not participate in our performances/competitions until everything is returned. Questions … please don’t hesitate to contact me: jim.loucks "at" wvsd.com

CAVALCADE OF BANDS – PASCO
Parents … I hope many of you will travel to Pasco on Saturday, October 4, to watch us compete against some of the finest high school marching bands in the Pacific Northwest. We will be marching in Prelims before 10:00 AM at 1:30 pm (UPDATED time from previous posting). Finals will begin at 6:00 PM. So, wear ORANGE AND BLACK and cheer loudly … the kids love it when they hear lots of you in the stands. (More information will be sent home when I receive the Final Instructions and Schedule of Performances)

Unlike most sports teams, we have no substitutes sitting on the bench/sideline, so we really need all of you at each performance/competition. Your absence has an adverse effect on our music and marching performance, and can have an impact in whether we make Finals. Thanks.

MARCHING BAND REHEARSALS
Parents … we are entering the most crucial part of our Marching Band Season as we make changes to our show, which will, hopefully, translate into higher scores and give our students an opportunity to march in Finals. Only the 12 Marching Bands with the highest scores in Prelims make it into Finals. So, please make sure your student attends all of our rehearsals. Athletes, make sure you get to our rehearsal as soon as possible after your practice or game. We really need you there.

MANDATORY BAND BOOSTER MEETING-Tuesday, Sept 16th

MANDATORY BAND BOOSTER MEETING
WVHS Theatre
Tuesday, September 16
7:00 PM

Parents … it is mandatory that you attend this meeting so all pertinent forms can be filled out and signed. Without these forms, your son or daughter cannot participate with the Marching Band at our upcoming competitions. Other Band Booster matters will be discussed, as well, so, please attend this important meeting. Without your support, we cannot provide the many great opportunities that our Band students get each year. Thank you.

BAND FEES AND OTHER MISCELLANEOUS EXPENSES
In order to assist you in planning your family budgets, I passed out a list to your student. Included in this list are Uniform Cleaning Fees, Color Guard Fees, Instrument Rental Fees, and estimated monies needed for meals for upcoming Marching Band competitions. Please ask to see this form. It’s also been attached to our website.

FALL SHOW
You will want to plan on seeing our show this year as this could be a very special year! The students have worked very hard and you’ll be so proud of them. Also, think about becoming a Chaperone for these wonderful kids … you’ll be changed forever.

"When will we see a Fall show video on the web site?"

Due to unique aspects of this Fall's show, we are not going to give any early hints to the competition.

So videos of the Fall show will not be made available through our web site until sometime after competitions get underway in October. Before then, a "private showing" may eventually be provided with an email containing a link and/or access password sent to the student and parent WV Bands email distribution list.

Mr Loucks will have a DVD of early performances and will likely show these to the students in band class during critique sessions.
