OPENING CEREMONIES
Lincoln Statue and Spokane City Hall
The Spokane Lincoln Festival will kick off at the statue of Abraham Lincoln, located on the corner of main and Monroe, where there will be a proclamation by a representative from the mayor's office. The event will then march to Spokane City Hall, to music provided by West Valley High School band. The opening will include a recitation of the Gettysburg Address by a North Central drama student, and a choral reading, also done by local students.
A video of the West Valley Band performance is available in High Definition here. Click on "watch in normal quality" at lower right of screen, or wait for the video to download, if your Internet connection is not fast enough.

Volunteers Needed

The Band Boosters has an opportunity to earn money, through Kiwanis, if we can provide 1 volunteer for about 1 day once per month.

The Reinland Auction held on March 7th, April 18th, May 30th, July 11th, August 22nd, October 3rd, November 14th and December 19th needs one Band Boosters volunteer all day on any of those Saturdays. The volunteer will assist in some easy volunteer work at their monthly auction from 7:30 am until 5 pm.

Reinland pays Kiwanis for the help and Kiwanis then pays Band Boosters!

Several volunteers are need to sign up so that one person does not end up doing all of these! Training will be provided.

The Reinland Auction is held at 2350 N. Beck Rd in Post Falls, ID.

Please contact Kay at 924-0321, (cell) 701-2274 or email to rdrckkay "at" comcast.net to volunteer!

The Feb. 3rd school district levy vote supports school music programs

(Note - the band web sites are independently run by parent volunteers and do not use District resources or facilities. WVSD has no responsibility for the content of this web site.)

WE NEED YOUR HELP!

On Tuesday, February 3, the patrons of the West Valley School District will be asked to renew the following two levies:
  • Maintenance & Operations (M & O)
  • Technology
Our great Band Program (Grades 5-12) benefits from both of these levies. So, we need your help!

Here's the Plan:
This Saturday, January 17, we will be canvassing door-to-door in the West Valley School District to inform the public of the upcoming election. We will meet at Millwood Presbyterian Church at 10:00 AM.

Materials, information and street assignments will be passed out.

We will work in groups of two and your son/daughter is invited to work with you.

We need as many people as possible, so please plan on attending this important event. If you can assist us on Saturday, please contact Brian Liberg at brianlib@comcast.net.

For more information on the levy, please read the Voter Guide (PDF file).

Thank you for your continued support. We hope to see you on Saturday.

Microsoft Songsmith

Microsoft Research releases "Songsmith" - you literally sing to your computer and it composes bad music to go along with your bad singing :-)

Take a look at the video on the Microsoft Research web site. And try to not to giggle too hard.

It does say that you can also play a musical instrument and the software will automatically construct a score too.

A free trial download of Songsmith is available but its nearly 100 MB in size.
