JAZZ BAND PERFORMANCE May 7th

The Jazz Band will be performing next Thursday, May 7, at the WASBO (Washington Association of School Business Officials) State Convention. We'll be providing musical entertainment during the opening breakfast for school financial officers from throughout the state. This event will be held in the Spokane Convention Center. Here's our schedule:

6:30 AM - leave WVHS (don't be late)
7:30 AM - performance
8:30 AM - arrive at WVHS

Transportation will be provided by the WVSD. All students are to wear black and white with red highlights (tie, etc.). This is a really high-profile performance!!!

This performance was included in an earlier Permission Form, so I won't be sending another one home.

"O" Hour will be cancelled for all non-Jazz Band students, but the Percussion Ensemble class will begin at 8:00 AM as normal. See ya!

STATE SOLO & ENSEMBLE FESTIVAL RESULTS

Congratulations to our Band students for their outstanding performances at the 2009 State Solo & Ensemble Festival, which was held this weekend in Ellensburg (CWU). Here are the results:

1 - Corey King (Snare Drum) - received three (3) Superior ratings (This is the highest you can get!!!)

2 - Chris Babinski (French Horn) - received an overall rating of Excellent

3 - Woodwind Quintet (Kimber Alsperger/Chris Babinski/Mark Casteel/Ashley Cato/Jeannie Vaughn) - received three (3) Excellent ratings

This is a head-to-head competition between the 22 Regional Champions in each instrumental category. Just imagine, you get one chance to perform at the highest level possible against the best musicians in the state of Washington ... there's no margin for error ... that's pressure!!!

ATTENTION SENIOR PARENTS AND STUDENTS!

There are several scholarships available for this year's seniors at WVHS ... the problem ... no students have applied for them. Parents, I would encourage you to have your son/daughter to check with Mrs. Lorenson in our Counseling Center. Many of the deadlines are quickly approaching. Best of luck!
