REGIONAL SOLO & ENSEMBLE FESTIVAL RESULTS

In the aftermath of the attacks of September 11, 2001 ... on Oct 4, 2001, over 1,200 high school musicians came together to perform a Salute to America with the largest assembly of high school musicians ever to perform as one band in the Pacific Northwest. This event was taped for presentation in New York City.

The performance featured members of the West Valley HS marching band and other area high schools bands and was performed on the field at West Valley High School.

This is a newly re-edited and re-mastered version of the original hand-held video made during the performance.

After setting up CMS with their new Facebook "Fans" page, I have done the same (I think!) for WVHS Bands.

If you are already a Facebook "Friend" of WV Bands, you do not need to do anything to keep up to date with the WV Bands website via Facebook.

But we are setting this up so that new Facebook connections will become "Fans" instead of "Friends" as it is a simpler process.

Auction meeting Wednesday January 6th at 6pm in the band room- This is an Auction meeting where we will assign committees and really get the ball rolling on the Auction. Everyone is invited to come. We need all the help we can get to make this Auction the best one yet.

Band Booster Meeting- Tuesday January 19th at 7pm in the band room- This is a mandatory meeting to find out information on a big band trip and to hear important information about the band. For your holiday entertainment - the amazing Shorewood High School (Shoreline, Wa) "lip dub" video, created in response to a challenge from their rival high school. Filmed in one long continuous "Russian Ark" style shot, this one was uniquely shot entirely in reverse. If you watch very carefully you'll spot the color guard and at least one band member.



For some amazing (mostly) college student created music videos, search YouTube for "lip dub". Some examples:

Here is a viewer for 41 separate WVHS Band videos (and some Centennial MS) going back over the years. This is not the complete collection - just a selection.

The first video in the list is a newly remastered version of the WVHS band's marching in the National Cherry Blossom Festival Parade in Washington, D.C. in 2006.

All music is from the respective high school band. These are from the 2009 KZOK and The Rock, Wood Fired Pizza high school band video competition. More to come!

Decatur High School - James Bond: Live and Let Die

This is a call for cookies and Christmas goodies. This Thursday after the band concert we will be having cookies and punch. We are asking each Family to bring a dozen cookies or some Christmas goodies. We will be hosting the 5th grade band and we all like cookies.

Please have your student start bringing in their goodies/cookies as soon as possible and give them to Mr. Loucks.

If you know you will provide something and how much please respond to this email so I can have an idea of what we have.

You may also receive a call reminder and ask for goodies. Please let them know also.

CHRISTMAS CONCERT DEC 17th at 7 pm!

Over in the Seattle area, radio station KZOK and The Rock, Wood Fired Pizza have been sponsoring an annual high school band an orchestra competition. Almost all of the entries (many dozen) each year have come from the west side of the state. However, last year, Spokane's Rogers High School marching band took the 2nd place prize and is a finalist for this year's competition.

I will be posting some of the submitted videos to the competitions for you to enjoy. The first one is from the Mercer Island High School Marching Band in a performance of Michael' Jackson's "Thriller".

Most of the videos are funny too! Check it out!
