CALIFORNIA TRIP... A HUGE SUCCESS!!!

The West Valley High School Band and Color Guard just returned from their trip to Southern California. The 52 students competed at a very high level on a national stage in the Disneyland Resort Parade (Anaheim) and the Heritage Music Festival (Fullerton). There were 1800 total performers (Band, Choir and Strings). Our students received the following awards:

  • Percussion Ensemble (1st Place - AA Division) (Silver Medal)
  • Wind Ensemble (2nd Place - AA Division) (Silver Medal)
  • Jazz Band (3rd Place - AA Division) (Silver Medal)
  • Marching Band and Color Guard @ Disneyland Resort (Silver Medal)
  • Color Guard (Bronze Medal)
Our very own, Kayla DeVleming, was the ONLY recipient of the 2014 Disneyland "Stand Strong" award, which is presented to one student who has overcome many personal obstacles in life to become an outstanding musician and citizen. She received an autographed hand drawing from one of the Disneyland animators... it is very cool! Kayla, we are so proud of you!!!

Special "thank you" to our wonderful Chaperones, who not only sacrificed financially, but gave up the luxury of having an 8-hour sleep... as they now know, they don't exist on any West Valley High School Band trips. Thank you, chaperones:

Diane Clinton, Shelley Cloy, Diana Fetters, Kevin and Lisa Freeman, Dan Hansen, Danielle Healey, Mark Jackson, Sue Long, Cari Roderick, and Bill Vaughn. Special thanks to Jody Pope, Color Guard.

And, to our great bus drivers from Alpha & Omega... Larry, Curtis and Herb... you're the best!

Finally, to our students... you made all of us proud... congratulations on a job well done!!!
