Congrats
On the District website:
(The photos on the district web site come up "randomly" and that photo is of a beginning band program in the school district. Nice coincidence!)
The reader board outside the District HQ also has congratulations to the band.
Jim Loucks notes (and I heard about the custodian comments from other students):
The Everett Photo Set in our photo gallery now has 34 photos.

Jim Loucks notes (and I heard about the custodian comments from other students):
"The kids made WVHS very proud and the culmination of our successful weekend was summed up by the custodian at the school where we stayed for two nights ... "you are the best behaved group of students we have ever had stay at Heatherwood Middle School!"

Pacific NW Band Championships - Spokane
To watch the online video of the performance: Go here and follow the instructions.
WVHS Marching Band performed twice - once in prelims, and then again when all bands also performed in finals.
The morning performance was described by all participants as weak and lacking in energy and enthusiasm.
But the band that performed in the evening was an entirely new band - great job students! The audience loved the show!
More information on the Albi Scoring
1) Of the 15 bands that performed, only 7 of those raised their prelim score during finals
2) 4 of the 7 were from our AA division ;;; the toughest division
3) WVHS was one of those to raise their score
4) Our division (the nominal "2A") actually consisted of 2-AAAA, 2-AAA, and 2-AA schools based on WIAA classifications
5) The top 3 scores in our division were higher than the winning score in AAA
6) WVHS was the smallest high school to compete ... pretty tough odds
Photos
Not our band but ... this is most of the McGrath High School Band from McGrath, Alberta. Their high school - just 135 students - hopes to start a marching band next year. Many of the band students came down to see the marching bands in performance. They cheered on WVHS for us! (This photo is spliced from two photos so one person appears sort of twice.)
Acres and acres of buses, trucks, and equipment fill up the staging area:
Band parents staff the BBQ grill to feed hungry band students after their evening performance:
Band members and band parents wait for the BBQ line:
Food!
Other Chuck Mangione related performances
While you are waiting for the video - you could watch some other school's videos of Chuck Mangione marching band performances:
Cabot High School - 5 A Division (Great flugelhorn and guitar duet! Decent video too, but a bit noisy on the audio - definitely worth watching)
Bella Vista Marching Band rehearsal, August, 2006. Um, okay, sorry for the link.
And here's Chuck himself playing Feels So Good! And here he is playing Give All You've Got.

Parents - if you have not been to a marching band competition before, take a look at the photos. Band competitions are a feast for the ears and the eyes. This next Saturday, the Spokane Thunder will be hosting the Pacific Northwest Marching Band competition at Joe Albi Stadium - come on out and have fun! WVHS performance time is 9:30 AM, and again that evening. Since only 15 bands are competing this year, the sponsor is enabling all bands to perform in the Finals to give everyone, including the small bands, a chance to perform before a large audience. Finals will begin at 5:15 pm but we do not know when WV will play.WV Drum Major accept awards at Pasco. By now they were starting to look for a cart or wheelbarrow to start hauling away all the awards!

Best percussion, brass AND WOODWINDS!, marching awards
Best percussion, brass and Woodwinds, marching awards for 2A
Update: These short updates were via cell phone text messaging.
Here is a longer explanation. The WVHS Marching Band scored 62.9 points, narrowly ahead of Clarkston High School at 62.8 points.
WVHS also took awards for Best Percussion, Best Brass, Best Woodwinds and Best Marching.
WVHS Marching Band won the overall Division 2A award.
Overall, Spokane area high schools did extremely well with the always excellent performances by the much larger Mead High School, Mt Spokane High School and Central Valley High School. East Valley High School and University High School also went to the evening "Finals competition". Even though WV won its division title, this year, only the top 12 bands (by points) were selected for Finals. In previous years, division winners also went to finals but under the new system, only the top 12 bands by points go to finals.
Next weekend, WV will perform at the Pacific NW Band Competition right here in Spokane at Joe Albi Stadium. Come watch your band in performance! Competition will again be tough as WV goes up against 2A schools which in Spokane, will also include EVHS and University HS. Both competed as 3A-small schools in Pasco but are competing as 2A schools in Spokane next week.
